Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson is absolutely one of my favorite books. I just barely finished reading it and already I yearn to read it again. I cannot wait for that day, or the day they make a movie of it!
Steelheart: 10 out of 10
Every minute of this story was pure pleasure. The premise is simple but awesome: Absolute power corrupts absolutely, so when some of mankind starts to get superpowers, they all become villains; there are no superheroes! The world this creates is an absolute pleasure to explore and imagine. For me, I kept relating it to The Incredibles, if they were all bad guys. That is a cartoon though, so perhaps imagine X-men if everyone joined Magneto or what would happen if Superman teamed up with Zod. It was a compelling take on the superpowers idea that I had never considered.
Since the world is full of superpowers, it falls to a normal, powerless human to be the hero. And what an entertaining and compelling hero he is.
Every bit as great as the world, is the main character. He is a quirky, funny, but intelligent man. His continuous, failed attempts to come up with metaphors for different situations never ceases to entertain. This guy is as bad at making metaphors as a tooth giving a hug, or something like that… (see what I did there?). This man is serious when the story calls for it, but gives you laughter at the most inopportune moments. It really is exhilarating.
This fantastic, imaginative book is a definite must-read, and a book that is too-good-to-put-down. You will never regret spending some time in the world of Steelheart!
